water poems

i've been painting sailboats since i was a kid. i grew up land-locked in jersey and was only on one sailboat in my life. most of these paintings were done in new york city.
it's important to state that none of these "water poems" are seascapes or landscapes. they have absolutely no intention to represent actual boats or "scenes from life." they are poems, portraits about the human experience of being alive and involved with water in the sense john keats was talking about when he requested to have "here lies one whose name was writ in water" on his gravestone.
i say this because i live on cape cod where it's seemingly mandatory for every citizen to either personally paint sailboats or to own a painting of a sailboat. from the galleries to the gas station rest rooms, sailboat paintings adorn the walls as if it's required by law. upon first moving here, this reality was so oppressive and annoying to me that i was completely unable to paint my water poems ... but that wave passed.
